Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi, TX
If you are planning a visit to the Corpus Christi, Texas area, make sure you head over to the Texas State Aquarium. The aquarium is open ever day (except for Christmas) from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. There is so much to see and do at the aquarium that you’ll want to plan to spend a full day (or two!) there. Polar Obsession: This is a photography exhibit that displays breathtaking images of polar bears in the wild taken by Paul Nicklen, a National Geographic Photographer.
Blue Hole: The Blue Hole exhibit showcases the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef. You will be able to see the incredible animals that call this habitat their home.
Jungle: The jungle exhibit highlights the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve that is located in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. This exhibit is home to tropical plants, birds, reptiles, bats, and a sloth.
Caribbean Sea: In the Caribbean Sea exhibit, you’ll be able to observe some of the predators of the ocean. The exhibit also features a shipwreck, which you can pretend to dive to explore.
Dolphin Bay: When you visit Dolphin Bay, you’ll be able to get up close and personal with the Atlantic bottlenose dolphins that reside in the aquarium.
Aquatic Nursery: In this unique exhibit, you will learn about how different aquatic species are born and how long they are carried by their mothers. This exhibit also explains how important sustainability and conservation are for wildlife.
Stingray Lagoon: Stingray Lagoon is an interactive exhibit which is sure to excite everyone in your group. At Stingray Lagoon, you are able to reach in and touch the stingrays as the swim by you.
Islands of Steel: The Islands of Steel exhibit lets you see the marine species that make their homes around the legs of oil rig platforms. Animals such as barnacles, sponges, and oysters grown on the hard sides of the legs.
Saving Sharks: This is an interactive exhibit that is designed to help you learn more about sharks. In the exhibit, you’ll learn how humans are more of a treat to sharks than they are to us.
Daily Presentations to Check Out
There are amazing presentations for you and your group to watch when you visit the Texas State Aquarium. When you visit the aquarium, be sure to check the schedule for the day you’ll be there so you can plan your visit around the shows you don’t want to miss. Here are a few of the presentations offered by the aquarium:
Dolphin Bay: During this presentation, you’ll get to watch dolphin trainers interact with dolphins. This fun show will also help you learn about how trainers teach and work with dolphins.
Feed the Rays: This presentation takes place at Stingray Lagoon each day. This is an interactive presentation where you will be able to touch and feed the stingrays that live at the aquarium. During the presentation, you will also learn about protecting stingrays that live in the wild.
Turtle Tales: During this presentation about sea turtles, you’ll get to observe sea turtles and learn about the different turtles that live at the aquarium.
Wild Flight Show: During this fun presentation, you’ll be able to get close to some exotic and native animals. You’ll learn about protecting wildlife and conserving resources during the show.
Amazing Animal Encounters
If you are a true animal lover and are willing to spend a little extra money, the Texas State Aquarium offers some once-in-a-lifetime experiences that you’re sure to enjoy.
Discover Dolphins: In this encounter you’ll meet with a dolphin trainer and learn about how to care for a dolphin. You’ll also get to participate in a small group session with some of the aquarium’s dolphins.
Sloth Meet-and-Greet: For this encounter, you’ll learn about sloths and what the aquarium workers do to keep them healthy. Then, you’ll be introduced to one of the sloths that lives in the aquarium, which is sure to be an exciting experience.
Feed the Fish: During this encounter, you will learn about how the aquarium’s staff care for the animals at the aquarium. You’ll have the opportunity to go behind the scenes and interact with and feed some of the animals, such as sharks and sea turtles.
